Question 1 – “I’ve heard Blue Lizard bottles change color. Is that true?”
Yes, absolutely. Whether you buy our sunscreen for kids, our baby sunscreen or our sensitive skin sunscreen, it will come in one of our patented smart bottles or in a tube with a smart cap. They change color when they’re exposed to UV light, which serves as a reminder to use it when you’re out in the sunshine. However, the sunscreen itself doesn’t change color, as it transforms from white to clear when rubbed into the skin.
Question 2 – “Why has my mineral-based sunscreen separated out in the bottle?”
It’s perfectly normal for Blue Lizard’s sunscreens because they’re essentially an oil and water emulsion mixture. This kind of blend will naturally separate out over time, but it’s really easy to rectify, as all you need to do is give it a good shake before use. Whatever you do, don’t pour off the liquid, as all you’ll do is degrade the quality of the sunscreen and the protection it provides.
Question 3 – “Is Blue Lizard mineral-based sunscreen water resistant?”
Yes, it is. Depending on what type of mineral sunscreen you opt for, you’ll enjoy a set amount of allowable time in the water. We have our Active, Sunscreen for Kids, Sport, Sport Original 30+ SPF lotions, our Sensitive and Baby SPF 50+ lotions and our sunscreen sticks which all offer as much as 80 minutes of resistance in moving water and then we have our SPF 30+ Sensitive Skin Sunscreen and Baby Sunscreen which offer up to 40 minutes.
Question 4 – “When and how should I apply mineral-based sunscreen?”
If possible, your mineral sunscreen should be applied at least 15 minutes before you’re going out in the sun. You should ensure that you apply your mineral-based sunscreen to dry skin and remember to reapply every two hours at the very least. If you are going to be spending some time in the water, check your sunscreen’s water resistance rating as you may need to get out and reapply every 40 to 80 minutes depending on the formulation.
Question 5 – “Am I able to use Blue Lizard Sunscreen under makeup or on top of a moisturizer?”
One of the many great things about our mineral-based sunscreen range is that it’s ideal for people of all ages, shapes, sizes and types. We’ve created our products in such a way that they can be used either over moisturizer or under makeup.
When worn under makeup, you need to ensure our sunscreen is fully absorbed before any makeup is applied. Conversely, when worn over moisturizer, our sunscreen should be rubbed in and allowed to dry to guarantee full protection from the sun.
Question 6 – “Will Blue Lizard mineral-based sunscreen block my pores?”
If you have sensitive skin or you’re prone to clogged pores, it doesn’t mean that you’re precluded from enjoying the many benefits of our mineral-based sunscreen. That’s because we’ve created our non-comedogenic Face and Sensitive Face sunscreens and our sunscreen sticks for this very purpose.
Question 7 – “What’s meant by ‘Broad Spectrum?”
When browsing through our range of mineral-based sunscreens, you’ll come across the term ‘Broad Spectrum’ in relation to the UV protection it provides. Broad Spectrum means that the sunscreen in question protects against both UVA and UVB rays from the sun.
Simply put, UVA relates to sun damage like melanoma, age spots and wrinkles. UVB, on the other hand, loosely relates to the rays that lead to sunburn. You don’t have to worry though, as our products protect against both.
Question 8 – “Are Blue Lizard products tested on animals?”
Our passion for protecting the environment also extends to the animals that live there and as such, we would never test our products on animals.
