Ways Covid-19 Spreads

Covid 19 is declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020, by the WHO. When a disease is declared a pandemic, it means a disease that the people are not immune to has rapidly spread across different regions, and to curb it, one has to understand the ways through which it spreads.

Covid 19 is a type of coronavirus caused by the virus called several acute respiratory syndromes (SARS-CoV-19). Coronaviruses are a common disease in certain kinds of animals and transmission from animal to human beings is very rare apart from this Covid 19.

It is believed that Covid-19 is gotten from bats or and pangolins and the first case is in Wuhan, China. Though it still seems unclear how the virus was transmitted to humans.

Infected people are believed to be most contagious of this coronavirus in the first five days of showing symptoms. While some asymptomatic people may not show the symptoms but can still be an agent spreading the virus. This has greatly fast-track the spread of Covid-19  globally.

How Covid 19 is spread.

Below are various ways through which Covid 19 is transmitted from an infected person to a subsequent host. Also, get here for the PCR COVID test in Dallas.

Contact, Droplet, or Aerosol Transmission

Transmission of Covid 19 can occur through direct, indirect, or close contacts with infected persons. This is achieved through secretions such as saliva and respiratory droplets. When an infected person coughs or sneezes, tiny droplets or particles called aerosol carry the virus into the air from their nose or mouth. Anybody who is within 6 feet of such a patient can breathe the virus into their lungs. Indirect contact means involving contacts of an individual who is a susceptible host with contaminated objects or surfaces.

Airborne Transmission

Airborne transmission is defined as the spread of infectious agents caused by the dissemination of a droplet that remains infectious when suspended over the air for a very long time. Research has shown that the virus can live in the air for up to 3 hours. One can contact this virus if someone infected with Covid 19 breathes out and you breathe that air in. Though there is disparity on how long the virus spread in the year and how much impacts it has had on the rapid spreads of the infection.

Fomite or Surface Transmission.

Another way the new coronavirus spread is through transmission from contaminated surfaces. This happens when you touch surfaces that an infected individual has coughed or sneezed upon. This way, if you touch your eyes, mouth, or nose without washing your hand, you are at the risk of contamination.

It is believed that Covid 19 last days on infected surfaces depending on the temperature and humidity of such area.

To contain this, ensure you clean and disinfect all surfaces such as counters, doorknobs that you and your family members touch severely in a day.

Fecal or Oral Transmission

A study has revealed that there are strains of Covid 19 on urine and feces of infected patients. But experts are not sure if the virus can be transferred through contact with an infected person’s stool. It is assumed that if infected individuals use the toilet without washing his/her hands, they can infect people and things they may so touch.
