Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes

Cleaning your makeup brushes will ensure that your makeup brushes will last for a very long time to come and keep them in tip top condition for your next use. Your mineral makeup brushes should be cleaned every one to two weeks.

Although you can purchase makeup brush cleaners, you can also use a good quality shampoo such as the one you’re using for your hair. If it is good enough for your hair it must be good enough for your makeup brushes!

Some users also use baby wipes to swipe their brushes clean in-between cleanings.

Whichever brush cleaning method you decide to use, be careful not to let any cleaner or water run inside the handle, as this can weaken the glue used to hold the hair and cause shedding problems or even wobbly handles. Always keep it at a slight angle (almost perpendicular) with the hair tips facing downwards, never upwards.

Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes:

  • Carefully wet the makeup brush hair.
  • Place some shampoo on your fingertips and gently shampoo in the direction of the hair.
  • Rinse thoroughly under gentle running water.
  • Gently press it flat in a towel to dry and press it back into shape.
  • You can then leave it to dry flat on a dry towel or HANG it up (suspended) with the hair tip facing down.

REMEMBER, do not leave it to dry with the hair facing up.  Makeup brushes that dry upright (with hair pointing or facing upwards)
can allow water to run into the base and loosen the glue.  This can cause
the makeup brush to fan out or shed and can even cause the handle to come loose.

Shopping For Mineral Makeup Brushes

I would recommend purchasing your mineral makeup brushes from the same seller
as your other mineral makeup. They should have a good assortment and this will
save you the expense of shipping & handling charges over purchasing them

If you are looking for brushes from Bare Escentuals bareMinerals or other well
know retailers, look first on eBay, many users sell extra brushes from kits at a
nice discount. Just make sure they are new and unused and the seller has great
feedback.   Here is a sampling of brushes on eBay:
